Rainbow Chan

Rainbow Chan is a Sydney artist with a love for story-telling. Whether she is chasing romantic adventures, stitching together childhood dreams or rummaging through flea markets, Rainbow is constantly collecting bits and pieces for her music. Conjuring an eclectic mix of electronic and acoustic textures, Rainbow Chan’s songs are delicately-crafted gems embedded in the nostalgic imagination. Live loops are created with music-boxes, thumb-pianos and vintage toys sourced from antique fairs. Lilting guitar is matched with 8-bit keyboards, distorted beats, glockenspiels and poetic lyrics. Wanting to explore different creative processes, Chan penned, recorded and produced her debut EP “brushed upon with rose” in the various lounge-rooms of friends and family. She even hand makes each EP, sewing vintage fabrics together for sleeves and drawing liner notes with pencil and texta. Enlisting the help of Jessica Dunn on bass (Sirens Big Band, Grace Before Meals) and Sydney’s own Jonathan Boulet for mixing and mastering, Chan has shaped a creative sound on this project that is at once mature and child-like, intimate and rich. This is just the first taste of a promising artist who is bound to make a wonderfully colourful splash.
